Sadly, a lot has gone wrong in the church but this article hasn't been put
together to point fingers because we are all guilty of one thing or the other.
The lost sheep is a figurative speech adopted to address an area of concern
that has constantly troubled my spirit and we must individually and
collectively begin to retrace our steps.
Just as there is a hierarchy in heaven, there is one in the church that
shouldn't be taken lightly. The mere fact God has bestowed us with some kind of
anointing or gift to be a part of His work doesn't give us the effrontery to
walk over our spiritual heads no matter what the case might be. That
automatically puts us in the wrong despite how justifying our views or actions
are.
God is the ultimate judge of all and we should learn to take all preceding
matters to His court. Our leaders have been kept in the place of leadership for
a reason best known to the Father, and unknown to many, it comes with numerous
trials, temptations and obligations that may not necessarily sit well with the
masses when carried out.
The way of God is not the way of man, let's be guided. However, one can
understand the frustration that comes from being misunderstood and treated
unjustly as it may seem because often, that is not the case. As humans,
however, we tend to allow our emotions to lead us on a hypocritical path that
darkens the doorsteps of pride, self-justification, strife and eventually
condemnation.
We must understand these leaders have blood running in their veins and are
subjects of emotional and cultural blackmail, the devil stops at nothing to
paint a false picture of the true events of things it's our job as the flock to
first make excuses for them before patiently and prayerfully unravel the
mystery of occurrences. There is no smoke without fire.
Why does he or she act in such a manner? Could he or she possibly be trying to
make the best decision for me?
Unarguably, both questions are valid but as Christians, we should endeavour to
align ourselves with a positive mindset and refrain from negative thoughts and
attributes. The truth is, you have no business being under his or her unction if you are going to constantly question his or her authority. Even though we
are not to fear the man of God but the God of man, that doesn't mean that they
should be disregarded and walked upon. Remember, the Bible admonishes us to
respect our spiritual leaders and deal with them as we would God.
They are God's representatives on earth and they see and know things we may not
know with our great anointing and revelation skills. That is me speaking for
those truly and passionately doing the work of the Father as they should. They
usually don't act on impulse and their actions and decisions are subject to the
revelations of the Holy Spirit and heaven backs up their every move.
Many, on the other hand, allow themselves to fall to the manipulations of the
flesh, nonetheless, that doesn't serve as a bedrock for ridicule and
disrespect. The fact remains they are our Fathers and Mothers in Christ till
God says otherwise and we must adhere to instructions coming out from the altar
of authority they've been ordained to mount and make declarations.
We become God's enemy if we take matters into our hands despite being worthy of
vindication. We must understand we are emotional beings and shouldn't do things
to provoke the irrational and questionable behaviour of our Pastors and
spiritual leaders and expect them not to react. If the tables were turned, how
would you respond?
There are accounts of sheep referring to their shepherds as rude and
insensitive when they were only acting on orders. People would try their best
to emotionally blackmail and flip the script on you and that's why your actions
and inactions must be deeply rooted in Christ. Only then can one maintain the right
standing in the face of earthly accusations knowing you never acted on impulse
and self-gratification.
It is a difficult job to lead a flock, but the sheep can make the adventure
worthwhile. You'll be amazed to know you're in the wrong when you think you're
being wronged. So, therefore, respect your leaders and leave the correction to
God, not correct them in love like the mistake many make.
It is not in the jurisdiction of a follower to correct his or her leader. A
follower has one of two options when the leader seems to be wrong:
1. Pray to God to speak to the leader about the seemingly right decision to
take.
2. Speak to his senior colleague or minister friend to try to speak to the
leader about the issue.
Suppose the Father has ordained him or her for a particular cause. In that case, he expects you as a chosen generation (The Subordinate) to complement the righteous effort of a fleshy being doing the work of the spirit that is guaranteed to encounter oppositions both physically and spiritually. You shouldn't subject yourself
to be used by the devil to castigate the work of salvation.
Pride comes shortly before a fall and no one is irreplaceable. My prayer is
that we don't lose sight of what is ahead and begin to realign ourselves to the
will and purpose of God for our lives. If God has allowed us to be a part of
something special, it is because He loves and expects us to do our bit to make
sure the mandate is fulfilled.
We should see it as a rare privilege and not a yardstick to act unwisely. Be
humble! Ask God for direction and surrender yourself to authority. Remember,
someday, you'll be asked to lead a flock, make the best of it and lead them to
the great Shepherd. Don't lead them astray. And that journey starts today
because to lead, first we must follow.
God's blessings
