Recently, I began to read a lot of books by Francine Rivers and in all the ones I have read so far, I have discovered a trend. The heroes in her stories talk to God a lot, at almost every point in time. I sincerely believe that this is her lifestyle, and should be the lifestyle of every Christian as well. It has spurred me on to do the exact same thing – talking to God as often as possible.
We have been taught that prayer is communion and communication with God, but it seems like we have limited it to making ‘requests' to God only with the way we now do it. God is sincerely interested in everything that concerns us, from the ‘silliest' of our desires to the ones we consider most important. He cares for every strand of hair on our heads as he does about our brains. Why limit conversations with Him to ‘requests' only? It is supposed to be a conversation, not a request show. You speak, He listens; He speaks, you listen.
Perhaps because religion has painted God as a very busy being who has no time for frivolities that some pesky creatures of his want to get him involved in, we think we'll be saving him time by ‘going straight to the point'. It's funny how that is exactly the opposite. The bible teaches us to cast all our cares on Him, not the ones we consider important, or the ones we think He might consider important. As long as it causes us to worry, it is a care and God is more than willing to take it on because He cares for us deeply.
God knows everything, but as I have discovered, speaking to Him often helps us to be conscious of His ever-abiding presence. It is like acknowledging that He is with us every time. So in actual fact, we would be doing it more for ourselves than for Him. Praying is a conscious act of casting all our worries and anxieties on our Father, and the beauty of being under the New Covenant is that we can now do so as often as we want. Our access to God is limitless. Making the most of it will give you a sense of peace. This, I strongly believe.
